AlUla is a desert, and the season you choose changes the trip completely. The short version: come between October and March. Here is the month-by-month reality.

The cool season (Oct–Mar) — the time to go

Daytime highs are mild to warm, evenings are cool to cold, and this is when AlUla’s festival season runs. It is also peak season, so book Hegra tours and hotels ahead. December to February can be genuinely cold after dark — bring a warm layer for desert evenings and stargazing.

The shoulder months (Apr & Oct)

April and October sit on the edge: warm days, fewer crowds than mid-winter, and still comfortable if you start early. Good value if you can handle a warm midday.

The hot season (May–Sep) — for the determined

From late spring, daytime highs climb past 40°C and midday sightseeing becomes hard. It is not impossible — dawn tours, indoor breaks and desert evenings still work — but it is not most people’s first choice.

Best light for photos

Whatever the month, the sandstone glows at the first and last hour of the day. Book the earliest Hegra slot and keep sunset free.
